Dream Big, Dream Often
Now is the time more than ever for you, homeschoolers to pursue your dreams. Our cover features a Homeschool graduate who dreamed of playing college football at Florida while watching Danny Wuerffel and the Gators play in the ’90’s. Now he is at the top of the Heisman Trophy race and one of the most successful college football players in the country. This is a great example how focussing on your dream, believing in yourself and working extremely hard has turned a dream into a reality, a mark. As more and more homeschoolers graduate from high school and college and begin to make their mark on society, more and more recognition and respect will follow. And believe me we should pursue our dreams and make our mark. What will your mark be? That’s where dreams play a huge part in our lives. Everything begins with a dream, a vision, a deep love. If this foundation is in place, the journey will begin. And I want to emphasize the importance of the journey because this is what you will remember forever. In this era of winning at all costs, cheating and off the field incidents, we should realize this point more than ever. So dream big, believe in yourself and work harder than everyone else — but do it all with integrity, honesty and most of all respect. This will make your journey a success.

New Mexico Gets on Board
The New Mexico Governor recently signed a bill allowing Homeschool students to play one sport per year in the public school in the school district they reside in. This is a huge success for Homeschooling and the spectrum of Homeschool sports. Only time will tell how many athletes will come out of New Mexico who otherwise would have gone unnoticed. The fall issue of Homeschool Sports Insider will feature Tim Tebow of the national champion Florida Gators. What if the state of Florida would have not allowed him to play on his local team? How many other Homeschool students are going unnoticed just because of their educational preference? These are questions that Homeschoolers are answering each year. The discipline and dedication of Homeschool student athletes are being recognized slowly but surely. It may seem like a frustrating, slow race now; but let me remind everyone who won the race between the tortoise and the hare. Patience is the key.

Public Schools Obsolete - Homeschool Stock Rising
It has been more than 2 years since Bill Gates declared public schools as obsolete at the National Education Summit on High Schools. This may not have been a claim for Homeschooling, but it definitely looks that way at some level. The main point behind his comment was the fact that the public school system needs to provide much more challenging work to students at a more personlized level for each student's life and their goals. Gates is working to make the public schools better, but they're already so far behind in the game, I think even his efforts will be futile because of the insular mindset of the public school officials. The road to educational excellence has already been paved by Homeschooling. We're already there and even Bill Gates understands it. Kind of.

Future Of Education Favors Homeschooling
One of the main issues that we cover at Homeschool Sports Insider is the extra-curricular participation of Homeschool students at the local public school level. At the bottom of this debate is the question, "Is Homeschooling a legitimate form of education?" As I ask myself this question, I can't help but think about the most popular alternative, a public school education. It's at that point when I realize why Homeschooling is the fastest growing form of education in our country today. But I don't think it's completely because of the moral deterioration in our public schools (which is also true) I really think the recent 5 to 10 year jump in Homeschooling numbers is because of educational deterioration in our public schools.

The current public school system hasn't changed it's concept in the last 50 years. There isn't a business in this world that would still be in opporation if they didn't adapt and change with their market. A great example is the recent collapse of General Motors. This is a company that completely failed (and is still failing) to recognize the needs of their market. As gas prices continue to get higher, they make larger cars. And at the same time, Toyota and Honda are gaining market share because of their ability to meet the customized needs of their market. We live in an 'on demand' world. We want things the way we want them and at the time that we need them. This is the same for education. This also isn't selfish, it's being informed and making a wise decision about education. The fact is that Homeschooling offers an on demand, customizable form of education, which is the future of education in this country.

As the public school system continues to teach memorization and 3rd grade reading skills in preparation for a career at the nearest industrial plant, Homeschool students continue to show exemplary academic work and are excelling in all aspects of society (including sports), which discounts one of the oldest arguments against Homeschooling - lack of socialization. More like discrimination.

Growing Homeschool Respect Means Greater Responsibility, Opportunities
Since the turn of the millenium, it seems as though Homeschool Sports has become more and more an iconic form of the American dream. The view of Homeschooling has gone from being completely outcasted to widely accepted and now preferred by millions. This trend has two immediate results, one is the responsibility for educational excellence now indirectly imposed on the homeschool market (which I don't think will be a problem at all), and the second are the growing number of opportunities that we all can take advantage of.

Sports is an opportunity at the forefront of this debate. The Homeschool canvas across the nation isn't anywhere from perfect or complete, but it's definitely better than 10 years ago, 5 years ago and even 1 year ago. And I believe it will be better tomorrow, next year and 5 years from now. There are currently 16 states that allow local public school extra curricular participation from the Homeschool market. This is much better than 5 years ago and it will be even better 5 years from now. As the respect and acceptance of Homeschooling continually grows, social reluctance and prejudice will decrease, then of course the responsibility and opportunities will grow even larger and the cycle will continue. It's an exciting time for Homeschooling, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Homeschool position will be in our society by as early as 2010.
